About Us

Built by students. Driven by ambition.

Origin & Inspiration

The history of the Bern Racing Team began in 2014 with the founding of the Bern Formula Student, established as part of the development of Formula Student activities in Biel.

During their transformative year in Germany, internships at leading automotive companies introduced them to the world of Formula Student, shaping their ambitions. Motivated by this experience and the lack of such teams in Switzerland, they founded Bern Formula Student.
Their first major milestone was the creation of “BERNA”, a prototype developed by a dedicated team of 15 within just nine months. This marked the beginning of an era of relentless innovation and progress.
Year after year, BFS evolved significantly, progressing from a chain drive to a spur gear system, and ultimately introducing its first wheel hub drive with “BIENNA” in the 2016/17 season. Already in 2015/16, the team met all SAE Formula Student regulations, reflecting its strong commitment and technical rigor.
In 2022, the team decided to start anew, leading to the creation of a fresh association: the Bern Racing Team. During the 2021/22 transition year with ADIA, the team redefined its structure and working methods, laying the foundation for a stronger future.

Learning

The Bern Racing Team gives engineering students the chance to apply what they learn in a real, demanding context. Beyond the technical challenge, it’s an opportunity to grow as engineers and as a team.

Innovation

Sustainable technologies are at the core of what we build. Electric drivetrains, energy systems, lightweight structures — each season is a chance to explore what’s possible and do it a little better than the year before.
